After a forest fire the females fly to the fire and lay the eggs on the wood, still smoking. In this way the larvae of this species of beetle can develop without competition since the other insects will have fled to other places that have not been eaten by the flames. These insects lay their eggs on recently burned trees and because of this need they have the ability to detect forest fires at great distances.
